Fielding woes cost Lady Lions in loss to Lady Warriors

SARDINIA - The Fairfield Lady Lions dropped another one run game on the road 10-9 to the Eastern Brown Lady Warriors in a non-league game played Monday at Eastern High School.
FHS scored nine runs on 12 hits and the Eastern Lady Warriors (19-4, 14-0 SHL) scored 10 runs on 10 hits.
Fairfield’s Whitney Hanenkrat had a career day at the plate belting two home runs in consecutive at-bats, knocking in five RBIs on the day. The second home run was a sailed over the centerfield fence. Hanenkrat's home runs were numbers five and six on the season, setting a single season record for the Lady Lions.
Heather Huff led off the game with a double to the fence in left field for the Lady Lions. Danielle Butler and Abby Thackston also had infield singles in the inning, which led to a run.
The Lady Lions scored three more runs in the top of the third inning.
With one out, Butler drew a base on balls, then moved to second base on a sacrifice bunt by Thackston. Butler scored on home run by Hanenkrat. Lauren Larrick and Gabby Boone followed with back-to-back singles. Jade Shelton doubled to the fence in left-centerfield to knock in Courtney Huff running for Larrick.
Fairfield (13-8, 10-3 SHL) built an impressive seven-run lead with three more runs in the top of the fourth inning. Kylie Bates led off the inning with a single to centerfield. Heather Huff followed with a bunt single. Two outs later, Hanenkrat belted a monster home run over the centerfield fence to clear the bases.
But the Lady Lions, again, showed its achilles heel by committing four errors in the bottom of the fourth inning, which led to seven Lady Warrior runs and a tied game. Eastern Brown scored three more runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to take a 10-7 advantage.
FHS rallied to score two runs in the top of the sixth inning, closing the gap to 10-9. The Lady Lions couldn’t come up with the timely hit as they left the bases loaded.
Leading hitters for the Lady Lions: Thackston (3-for-4, one run), Hanenkrat (2-for-3, two home runs, two runs, five RBIs), Heather Huff (2-for-5, double, two runs), Shelton (1-for-3, double, two RBIs), Larrick (1-for-4, one run), Boone (1- for-3, one RBI) and Bates (1-for-3, one run).
Larrick (12-8) suffered the loss for the Lady Lions and Emily Tatman picked up the win for the Lady Warriors in relief of Maria Johnson. Ariel Haitz picked up the save for EB. Larrick went six innings, allowing 10 hits, 10 runs (five earned) and four walks. Larrick finished with four strikeouts.
