DODSONVILLE - The Fairfield Lady Lions returned to Southern Hills League play in a big way Tuesday afternoon by defeating the Lynchburg Clay Lady Mustangs 23-1 at LCHS.
The Lady Lions' offense was in high gear as they pounded out ten hits, including an RBI double by Tiffany Woods, a solo home run by Whitney Hanenkrat and a grand slam home run by Lauren Larrick.
Meanwhile, the Lady Lion pitching staff shut down the Lynchburg Clay Lady Mustangs on two hits, while striking out 11 batters.
Fairfield (4-1, 5-2) scored three runs in the top of the first inning on two walks, a sacrifice bunt and a single off the bat of Abby Thackston.
FHS added eight runs in the top of the second inning.
In the inning, Larrick singled, Woods doubled, Sirenity Smith singled, and Hanenkrat hit a solo home run.
The Lady Lions scored another ten runs in the top of the fourth inning.
Kylie Bates, Thackston, Danielle Butler all singled in the inning. The big blow in the inning was a grand slam home run off the bat of Larrick.
FHS finished the scoring with two runs in the top of the fourth inning.
Leading hitters for the Lady Lions included: Thackston (3-for-5, three runs, four RBIs), Larrick (2-for-4, home run, three runs, six RBIs), Hanenkrat (1-for-4, home run, four runs, one RBI), Butler (1-for-3, SAC bunt, one run, one RBI), Woods (1-for-3, double, two runs, two RBIs), Smith (1-for-2, three runs, one RBI) and Bates (1-for-2, one run, one RBI).
Larrick (5-2) one hit and no earned runs in three innings of work. The sophomore had nine strikeouts. Woods finished the game for the Lady Lions.
Covert suffered the loss for the Lady Mustangs.
