SEAMAN – After giving up two runs in the first three innings, the Fairfield Lions torched the North Adams Green Devils for seven in the bottom of the third. The big inning by the Lions allowed them to rule the home of the Green Devils for one day, as they defeated North Adams 11-2 Tuesday.
In a game that was relocated to the baseball field of North Adams, the Lions were considered the home team due to unplayable field conditions at Fairfield High School.
In the first inning, North Adams jumped out to an early one-run lead, with Dillion Davis hitting a two-strike single, followed with Corey Jodrey sacrificing Davis to second on a bunt. Davis then advanced to third and scored on a base knock by Zach Dollich for the 1-0 lead over the Lions.
The Green Devils added to their lead with a run in the third when Sam Louden doubled with one out, eventually scoring in the inning.
Then it was all Fairfield from the bottom of the third on, with the Lions scoring 11 straight runs.
Bobby Wilson started the Lion half of the third with a seven-pitch walk. Nathaniel Miller followed with a single, and Tyler Campbell loaded the bases with a base on balls. The first Lion run came with Wilson scoring on the second pitch of Dakota Hargrave's at-bat.
After Hargrave walked, Cody Tolle reached base on a fielder's choice, scoring Miller to tie the game at 2-2.
With one out Austin Hildebrant knocked in both Campbell and Hargrave. Ian Adams then took two bases on a double, with two outs, to bring home Tolle and Hildebrant. Adams then scored on a single by Wilson.
In the fourth, Campbell and Chase Fulkerson scored runs for the Lions. Campbell took the bases when he hit a lead-off double. He scored off a two bagger from Tolle. Tolle was relieved from the bases by Fulkerson, who was the pinch runner.
In the fifth, Adams led off with a seven-pitch walk, followed with a SAC bunt by Wilson, advancing Adams to second. Miller followed with a walk, and Campbell was hit by a pitch, all with no outs. Adams took home with a sacrifice fly to right field by Hargrave to put the Lions up 10-2.
The bottom of the sixth saw Michael Carson score a run for Fairfield. Carson reached the bases on an infield error by the Green Devils. He scored with a sacrifice fly to center field by Sammy Williams.
In the top of the seventh, Kyle Carson closed out the game with a 1-2-3 inning for the Lions.
The win was credited to Miller. The junior went six innings on the hill, allowing two runs (one earned) on six hits and three walks. Miller dominated with 10 strikeouts.
Carson pitched one inning of relief, allowing no hits or runs. He struck out two batters.
The loss was charged to Davis, who went four innings on the mound. Davis finished with three strikeouts. Nathan Beasley pitched two innings for the Green Devils, allowing no hits.
For the Lions, Jordan Boles had a base hit in the bottom of the second inning.
Adams, Hildebrant and Tolle each tallied two RBIs. Williams, Kyle Carson, Hargrave and Wilson each had one RBI.
NAHS finished with five errors, while the Lions committed four.
The Lions are scheduled to host the Peebles Indians on Thursday at 5 p.m.
