Hillsboro Great Oaks FFA Chapter

On May 8, the Hillsboro Great Oaks FFA Chapter had its annual Food for America Day, where we brought the kindergarteners from Hillsboro Elementary School to have an enjoyable day of learning about agriculture and playing games.

Food for America this year was hosted by Vance Farms, where we had 10 different stations set up for each class to rotate around.

The stations involved a dairy station, where they learned where milk comes from and got a snack of some ice cream; the petting zoo was also a big hit this year where multiple chapter members volunteered to bring different animals like a dog, rabbit, ferret, cows and a cat. We also brought in a new station, “the rodeo station,” that included the kids being taught how to lasso, and they could touch a real horse and play some barrel racing games.

Five of the Hillsboro Great Oaks FFA Chapter members, John Deans, Kenny Shawhan, Steven Rodgers and Mathias Hostetler, went to the Hillsboro Elementary School to plant flowers with the first-graders on May 6.

Each class got to plant zinnias in their flower pots that they had previously painted. After they planted their flowers, they got to take them home. Thank you teachers and FFA members for allowing these students to have this opportunity.
