Hillsboro FFA holds first 5K

On Saturday, Nov. 7, the Hillsboro FFA Chapter held their first 5K run/walk at the Highland County Fairgrounds.

The run/walk began at 9 a.m. There were around 80 people in attendance. The cost of the walk/run was $20.

The overall male winner was Mackenzie Conlon, and the female winner was Reaghan Haines.

The race was a huge success, and a lot of people showed interest for the race to continue in the years to come.

The money that was raised was for the chapter’s Adopt-A-Family program. For Adopt-A Family, the chapter buys Christmas presents for two to three families in Hillsboro’s school district. Members of the chapter go to Walmart and buy clothes, toys, food and whatever else the family may need to have a merry Christmas.

After the costs were taken out, the total made was $1,222.65. With this money, we reached our goal of $1,000 and will be able to purchase gifts for three families.

The FFA Chapter has had a few different ways to try to raise money for the Adopt-A-Family program, but the 5K has been the most successful by far. The Chapter would like to thank all the sponsors as well as anyone else who came out to support the cause.
