Hillsboro City Schools show support for Team Abi

Students, teachers and staff at Hillsboro City Schools have teamed up to show their support for a Hillsboro Middle School student battling cancer.

Abigail “Abi” Lykins, 11, is a sixth-grade student at Hillsboro Middle School. On Sunday, Feb. 21, Lykins was diagnosed with T-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia and was admitted to Children’s Hospital in Cincinnati, where she will be hospitalized for four to six weeks.

The Hillsboro City Schools district hosted “Team Abi Day” on Friday, Feb. 26, where students, teachers and staff wore orange to show their support for Lykins.

Angie Juillerat, who organized the Team Abi event, also collected gifts, get well cards and posters of encouragement for Lykins, which were given to Lykins’ older sister, Ashley, to deliver. Ashley Lykins is a Hillsboro High School student.

There are several fundraisers planned to assist Lykins and her family, including T-shirt sales, a GoFundMe page and a bowling fundraiser scheduled for April 30 at Highland Lanes. For more information, visit the Team Abi Facebook page.
