Greenfield Elementary fifth-graders have raised the most money yet in this third year of the Art for a Cause fundraising event.

Earlier in March art pieces created by the fifth grade students were auctioned off on Greenfield Elementary’s Facebook page. The results of that auction totaled $1,109.50, according to art teacher William Roller. This surpasses the funds raised in previous years.

In the last two years, students have raised nearly $1,800 through the auction of their original artworks. In the first year, proceeds were split between the Highland County Homeless Shelter and the Highland County Humane Society. The proceeds from last year’s event went to a local student battling leukemia. The money raised through this year’s auction will go to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. All causes supported have been chosen by the students.

“They did great,” Roller said of the students.”I am so proud of them and the community/ families for stepping up and making this a success.”
