Ohio lawmaker seeks 10 years of pay increase for elected officials
State Rep. Bill Seitz, R-Green Twp., said this week that state lawmakers are debating a pay raise for themselves and all elected officials across the state − from township trustee to governor.
According to a Columbus Dispatch report by Laura Bischoff, the proposal being debated calls for 5 percent raises in each of the next four years and then the lesser of annual inflation or 3 percent in the six years after that.
The raises would be applied to township trustees, county officials, judges, lawmakers and statewide officeholders. Legislators are currently paid $71,100 a year, plus benefits and those who serve in leadership posts are paid more.
Full-time judges are paid between $148,775 for municipal court to $196,633 for Supreme Court chief justice. The governor is paid $159,372 a year.

I guess the House Bill 6 money tree has dried up. Our gerrymandered "policy makers" are at least being up front about where the money is coming from this time - the taxpayer.

How about we link their raises to the COLA raises for active duty military? Or SS recipients?
•••Publisher's note: Uh, no, JT. That's a very bad idea. Due to the Biden/Harris inflation, SS recipients received an 8.7-percent increase last year. By your logic, Seitz is being conservative. As I proposed many years ago, why not pay state lawmakers the same as the state's median household income? (Yers, household income. I'm being a bit generous.)
I like the idea of the median wage...
... but subsequent increases are linked to the dollar amount, not the percentage.

Raise
I understand the need for raises. However I think raises should be fair across the board!! Poll workers don’t even make minimum wage in most areas across the state if it wasn’t for them elected officials may not have a job!

It is very amusing when so-called conservative lawmakers like to sneak in their pay raises AFTER the general election. Was Seitz's campaign slogan: "Vote for me, and I'll give myself a raise?" Ohio Republican-led lawmakers pulled this same crap on taxpayers six years ago. How many private-sector workers can vote themselves substantial pay raises for the next decade? Tax-and-spend conservatives. They have no shame.
