The Clermont County Sheriff’s Office announced that a Tate Township man was taken into custody Oct. 22 in Camp Washington, Cincinnati with assistance from the Cincinnati Police Department.

On Oct. 16, Randall Cornwell was indicted by a Clermont County grand jury for his alleged involvement in an overdose death. Cornwell is alleged to be the person responsible for the sale of narcotics resulting in the death of the victim.

The grand jury returned an indictment for Cornwell on the following charges: one count of involuntary manslaughter, a felony of the first degree; one count of corrupting another with drugs, a felony of the second degree; one count of trafficking in a fentanyl-related compound, a felony of the fifth degree; and one count of tampering with evidence, a felony of the third degree.

On May 13 at 6:58 a.m., deputies from the Clermont County Sheriff’s Office responded to the Village of Chilo in Clermont County for a report of an individual not breathing. Franklin Township EMS responded and immediately attempted lifesaving measures for the 25-year-old victim. Despite those efforts, the victim was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Detectives from the Clermont County Sheriff’s Office were called to the scene and began investigating. Detectives were able to collect the victim’s phone as well as other evidence relating to the investigation.

A subsequent toxicology report from the Hamilton County Coroner’s Office confirmed that the victim’s cause of death was “acute intoxication by the combined effects of acetyl fentanyl, fentanyl and methamphetamine.” Cornwell is accused of arranging narcotics transactions with the victim, including the night before the victim’s death.

An indictment is merely a charge and is not evidence of guilt.
