Wildcats win in double OT vs. Blue Jays

MOWRYSTOWN — The Whiteoak Wildcats and Ripley Blue Jays battled for 40 minutes, and getting help from not only the starters, but bench players, the Wildcats defended their home court in double overtime, defeating the Ripley Blue Jays 87-80 for the Southern Hills League win.
Luke Taggert had 11 points for WHS in the two overtime periods, including making a jumper with five seconds left on the clock in the first overtime, tying the game, as Taggert wrapped up the game with 23 points.
Ripley (4-2, 8-2) got off to a hot start with 24 first-quarter points, taking a 24-16 lead. In the second, RHS outscored the host Wildcats 18-16, building a halftime lead of 42-32.
In the third, WHS (3-3, 5-7) added 14 points, while RHS scored 14. The fourth quarter saw the Wildcats outscore RHS 18-10.
The overtime periods saw each team score nine in the first OT, and in the second OT, WHS outscored the Blue Jays 12-5.
Leading the Wildcats was Doc Seip, who led the team with nearly a triple-double as he scored 28 points, grabbed 14 rebounds and had nine blocks in the win. Seip was 8-of-10 from the free-throw line, along with making 10 two-point baskets.
Gage Carraher and Wes Stratton each added 10 points, as Carraher sank one 3-pointer and led WHS with eight assists on the night.
Also scoring for WHS were Zach Docter with six points, Steven Meyers with five and Blake Trublood adding three points.

Leading all scorers was Ripley's Mitchell with 29 points, including six 3-pointers. As a team, the Blue Jays sank 11 3-pointers.
WHS is scheduled to play again on Friday, Jan. 20 when they travel to face the Fairfield Lions.
