Wildcats top Greyhounds; fall to Warriors

MOWRYSTOWN — In their two most recent games, the Whiteoak Wildcats have helped shake up the standings in the Southern hills League. At the start of the 2012 calendar year, they defeated the Manchester Greyhounds and three days later fell to the Eastern Brown Warriors.
[[In-content Ad]]In their most recent game (Jan. 6), the Wildcats dropped a game to the Warriors, 52-40. In that game, WHS was held to single digits in the first and fourth quarters.

In the opening frame, EB led 13-9, but WHS (2-3, 4-6) came back with a 12-9 quarter, as they trailed 22-21 at the half.

In the third, the Wildcats had their most productive quarter offensively with 13 points but were unable to hold the Warriors to a lower score, as EB finished the third with 16 points.

In the final eight minutes, EB outscored the Wildcats 14-6.

WHS made 12 two-point field goals, along with three 3-pointers. From the charity stripe, WHS was 7-of-14 (50 percent).

Leading the Wildcats was Luke Taggert with 14 points, including one 3-pointer. Taggert was 5-of-9 from the free-throw line.

Doc Seip followed with 10 points, and Gage Carraher scored eight points (two 3-pointers).

Also scoring for WHS were: Zach Docter (5), Steven Meyers (2) and Justin Butler (1).

The Warriors were led by Lawson with 19 points, Scott with 13 and Payne with 10.

EB made one 3-pointer, along with 19 two-point field goals. From the free-throw line, they were 11-of-13.

On Jan. 3, the Wildcats defeated the Manchester Greyhounds 55-54 at WHS for an SHL win.

WHS led 11-10 after the first quarter and 29-22 at halftime (18-12 second quarter).

In the third, Manchester outscored WHS 17-12, and in the fourth, it was Manchester who outscored WHS 15-14.

Leading WHS was Docter with 14 points. Docter was 3-of-4 from the free-throw line with one 3-pointer and four two-point baskets.

Seip and Taggert each scored 12 points. Carraher made three 3-pointers for a total of nine points. Meyers scored five, and rounding out the WHS scoring was Butler with three points.

For MHS, Travis Combs finished with 17 points, and West added 14.

Manchester was 9-of-16 from the free-throw line.

The next game for WHS is on Tuesday, Jan. 10 when they travel for a non-league game against Portsmouth.
