MOWRYSTOWN - With the game being tied at two runs each headed into the seventh inning, the Whiteoak Wildcats gave up four and only scored two, falling in game one of a twilbill with Northwest High School 6-4 Saturday afternoon.
Each team scored one in the first inning, followed with NW scoring the go-ahead run in the top of the fourth. The Wildcats rallied to tie the game at two in the bottom of the fifth.
The Wildcats were led at the plate by Gage Carraher with a 2-for-4 effort. Luke Taggert went 2-for-2 with two runs. Taggert's two hits were a double and triple.
Zach Docter, Ethan Eyre and Mike Carraher each had one hit. Eyre recorded one RBI.
"Gage and Luke swung the bat extremely well." Whiteoak head coach Chris Veidt said. "We just didn't throw and catch good enough to win, and our pitch selection at the plate wasn't what we expect."
The loss was charged to Docter. The WHS pitcher went all seven innings on the hill, allowing six runs (one earned) on seven hits and three walks. Docter had five strikeouts.
"Zach (Docter) pitched a fantastic game," Veidt said. "He didn't give up a hit until the fourth, and that was a bunt. Of the seven total hits he gave up, only one cleanly left the infield."
    The winning pitcher was Miller.
In game two, the Wildcats fell 8-5 at Whiteoak High School.
Again, each team plated one run in the first. The Wildcats (2-3) scored one in the second to take a 2-1 advantage.
In the top of the third the Wildcats scored five times. The five-run inning allowed Northwest to take a 6-2 lead.
NW tacked on one more in the top half of the fourth, but it was the Wildcats who rallied to score three runs, cutting the NW lead down to two runs at 7-5.
NW scored one insurance run in the seventh.
Gage Carraher finished 2-for-4 at the plate for WHS. Wes Stratton was 2-for-2 with one run. Docter, Mike Carraher, Taggert and Ryan Emery each had one hit. Docter scored once, with Taggert crossing home plate twice for two runs. Mike Carraher had one RBI.
"Gage and Wes continue to hit the ball. It was a tough day for us overall, but you can see the young guys getting better and better. It is just a matter of our older guys heating up. Their track record speaks for itself. We're close, and it will happen. We are in good shape in the league, and we have much to look forward to," Veidt said.
The loss was charged to Taggert. He went four innings, allowing seven runs (seven earned) on five hits and four walks. Taggert had one strikeout.
Eyre pitched three innings of relief with one strikeout. Eyre allowed one run (one earned) on four hits and no walks.
"Luke threw the ball well for two innings, and then kind of hit a wall in the third. He looked great for the first two innings. Ethan (Eyre) did a great job in relief," Veidt said.
