RIO GRANDE - The Whiteoak Wildcats gave up six runs in the first three innings to Glouster Trimble as they dropped their second straight non-league game Monday afternoon 7-3.
WHS, who was the home team as the game was played at the University of Rio Grande, allowed the Tomcats of the Tri-Valley Conference to score one run in the first, two in the second and three in the third for a 6-1 advantage after three innings.
"Trimble is a quality opponent," WHS head coach Chris Veidt said. "They are one of the top Division IV programs in the district, year in and year out. Their pitcher (Chesser) threw a nice ball game with excellent tempo and no walks."
Whiteoak (4-5) added one run each in the fourth and fifth innings for their three runs.
The Tomcats scored their final run in the sixth inning.
At the plate for the Wildcats, Zach Docter was 2-for-4 with a double. Gage Carraher went 2-for-3 with one run and two RBIs.
Mike Carraher, Luke Taggert, Jesse Bradds and Wes Stratton each went 1-for-3. Taggert had an RBI, and Stratton scored a run.
"Zach, Gage and Luke continue to swing the sticks well," Veidt said. "Gage also had a nice game defensively at third base."
Taggert suffered the loss for the Wildcats. Taggert (0-2) pitched seven innings, allowing seven runs (four earned) on eight hits and six walks. He struck out four batters.
"We stepped in the right direction as far as our pitching and defense is concerned," Veidt said. "Luke was as good as anyone we have had over the final three innings. He really settled down and grew up as a pitcher in this game."
WHS will take on Ripley Tuesday at RHS at 5 p.m. in Southern Hills League play.
