Wildcats open season at 1-1

MOWRYSTOWN — The 2011-12 Whiteoak Wildcat boys basketball team has opened the season with one win and one loss by defeating the North Adams Green Devils by 14 points (66-52) and falling to Oak Hill 55-52.

In their season opener at WHS, the Wildcats scored double figures each quarter, leading 20-15 after the first quarter against the Green Devils. NA won the following quarter at 15-11 for a halftime score of 31-30 in favor of the host Wildcats.

In the third frame, the Wildcat cameos out of the locker room with an 18-point effort, while their defense held the Green Devils' offense to 11 points. In the fourth, it was all Wildcats, winning the quarter 17-11.

For WHS, Doc Seip, a junior, led with a game-high 21 points, including nine two-point buckets and a 3-of-3 effort from the free-throw line.

Gage Carraher followed with 16 points (8-of-11 from the charity stripe) and Zach Docter with 11 points. Docter sank two 3-pointers and went 5-of-8 from free-throw line.

Also scoring for WHS against the Green Devils were Wes Stratton (5), Steven Meyers (6) and Luke Taggert (7). Taggert made one 3-pointer.

Kris King led the Green Devils with 15 points, followed by Seth Sparks with 11 and Sheridan Carroll with 10 points.

For the game, WHS was 21-of-30 from the free-throw line, and NA was 7-of-20 with their free-throw shooting.

The Green Devils made seven 3-pointers, including four by King, two from Sparks and one from Drew Mitchell.

On Tuesday, Dec. 6, the Wildcats traveled to Oak Hill, falling by a score of 55-52.

WHS led after the first frame at 16-12 but trailed at halftime by a score of 31-29.

The Wildcats came back to regain the lead in the third, taking it into the final frame at 44-39.

WHS was unable to keep their fourth quarter advantage as they were eventually outscored in the final eight minutes at 14-10.

Taggert led the Wildcats with 21 points, making seven field goals, one 3-pointer and finishing 4-of-5 from the free-throw line.

Carraher netted 11 points, including three 3-pointers, and he was followed by Docter with nine points.

Also scoring for WHS were Stratton (4), Meyers (2) and Seip (5).

For the game, WHS made five 3-pointers and were 9-of-14 from the free-throw line. They made a total of 14 two-point field goals.

Oak Hill was led by Josh Kisor with a game-high 33 points. He made 14 two-point baskets and was 5-of-8 from the free-throw line.

The host Oak Hill squad finished with 21 field goals and were 13-of-21 from the free-throw line.

The Wildcats next take the court on Friday, Dec. 9 at West Union.
