MOWRYSTOWN — The Whiteoak Wildcats are headed to the district finals after defeating the the Manchester Greyhounds, 10-5 Thursday night to become sectional champions.
The Wildcats scored quickly in the first inning of the Division IV SE District Sectional, adding three runs to the scoreboard, followed by one run in the third.
Trailing 3-1 after three innings (Manchester scored one run in the second), the Greyhounds scored another run in the fourth.
WHS (14-10) answered with four runs in the fourth, followed by two final runs in the sixth.
Manchester added three runs in the fifth and sixth innings.
In the first for WHS, Michael Carraher, Gage Carraher and Jesse Bradds scored runs. Luke Taggert added one run in the third for WHS, and in the fourth, Ryan Emery, Taggert, Wes Stratton and David Deer all crossed home plate.
In the sixth, Bradds and Tyler Williams each scored a run. Bradds finished 3-for-4 with two runs.
Michael Carraher had five steals, setting the WHS season mark at 33.
The win went to Gage Carraher. Carraher pitched seven innings, allowing five runs on six hits and three walks. The sophomore struck out eight batters.
WHS will play in the district semifinals on Sunday at VA Memorial Stadium in Chillicothe at 2 p.m., where they will face No. 1 seeded Southern. Southern defeated No. 9 seed Miller 10-0.
