Whiteoak track and field productive early on

    MOWRYSTOWN - The Whiteoak boys and girls track teams have gotten off to a good start in the early season.
    The boys team has competed at Greenfield, West Union and Peebles, and has won a dual meet at Adena. Whiteoak won the meet 64-55.
    WHS had 11 different athletes score, and were led by junior Nick Eldridge who won the 3200-meter, 1600m and 800m events at Adena.
    Freshman Cory Garrison won two individual events (200m and long jump), along with anchoring the winning 4x100 and 4x200 relay teams.
    Whiteoak junior Mark Crowe won the 400m and teammate Steven Oney finished second and both were part of the winning 4x200 relay teams.        
     Freshman Justin Berkley won the high jump and teammate Conor Kimble finished second. Vince Clark was a multiple scorer as he was second in the discus and third place in the shot put. Matt Forsythe and Jon Fox eached placed in the long jump and were key parts of the winning 4x100 team. Anthony Lomske and Daniel Miller rounded out the scoring for Whiteoak with second place finishes in the 800m and 110m hurdles.
    The Whiteoak boys have had other top performances including: Mark Crowe winning the 400m at the Peebles Invitational with a time of 54.32. Steven Oney won the 400m at West Union with a time of 55.9.
    Justin Berkley has two first place finishes in the high jump. Cory Garrison ran a personal best 23.9 in the 200m at the Peebles Invitational, and has long jumped 19-1.5 and has won a total of five events so far this season.
    On the girl's side they tied for first place at the West Union quad meet.
    So far on the young season senior Felicia Stevens has been entered in nine events, and has eight wins and one second place finish. The second place finish came by a mere few seconds. In that second place finish the Whiteoak girls 4x800 team of LeAnna Lomske, Jennah Lomske, Jessie Gilliland and Stevens had best 4x800 time for Whiteoak in the past decade, by more than 35 seconds.
    Also excelling for the Lady 'Cats is freshman Clarissa Johnson, who has three wins and six top three finishes on the season. Returning all-district runner Lizz Carson has fared well in scoring numerous top three finishes in the long jump, high jump and 300m hurdles.
    Sophomore Jessie Gilliland has three wins on the young season, and sisters LeAnna and Jennah Lomske have amassed four first place relay finishes and multiple individual top three finishes in the 800m and 1600m runs.
    Teammates Morgan Lehr, Brandy McClure, Rose McCann and Karla Melgar have improved their 4x200m time in three of the four meets and all four have continuously improved their times in their individual events.[[In-content Ad]]
