We have lift-off: Wildcats fly away with SHL win over Rockets

MOWRYSTOWN — Behind a 38-point second half, the Whiteoak Wildcats added another win to their Southern Hills League total Tuesday night, defeating the Fayetteville Rockets, 65-50 at Whiteoak High School.

Whiteoak senior Joe Michael impressed the home crowd with a game-high 28 points. The senior had eight two-point baskets, one 3-pointer and was 9-of-13 from the free-throw line.

As for the Wildcats' second-half display, they added 14 points in the third frame, after leading 28-23 at halftime. Once the third quarter wrapped up, WHS led 42-30. The defense of WHS held Fayetteville to seven points in the third.

Then came the biggest quarter of the game for both teams as they combined for 43 points in the fourth quarter. WHS won the final eight minutes 23-20.

In the first two quarters, WHS trailed 11-10 once the first quarter ended but outscored the Rockets 18-12 in the second frame.

WHS had two more players score in double figures, with Gage Carraher scoring 11 points and Doc Seip finishing with 10. Carraher was 9-of-10 from the free-throw line.

Mike Carraher scored eight points for the Wildcats, followed by Wes Stratton with five. Also scoring for WHS was Mark Crowe with two points and Logan Morris with one.

Iles led Fayetteville with 13 points, and teammate Clark finished with 12. Iles made three 3-pointers, and Clark had two.

Overall from the free-throw line, WHS was 26-of-36, while Fayetteville went 12-of-18.

The win lifts WHS to 4-3 in the SHL and 5-8 overall.

WHS is scheduled to play again on Friday when they host the Manchester Greyhounds.[[In-content Ad]]
