MOWRYSTOWN — The Whiteoak Lady Wildcats are continuing to work on their season, but on Monday, it was the North Adams Lady Green Devils who took over their Lady 'Cat home court for a convincing 76-21 Southern Hills League win.

The Lady Green Devils led 20-5 after the first quarter, and after they took a halftime lead of 38-12. In the third, the lead went to 59-14, then in the fourth, they outscored the Lady 'Cats 16-7.

Though Whiteoak was diving after lost basketballs and playing with effort, the North Adams defense was too much as they forced (unofficially) 40 turnovers.

"We just don't take care of the ball very well," Whiteoak head coach Mike Cooper said. "We put too much pressure on Jessie, and we need to help her.

"We still don't shoot the ball well, and our post defense was nonexistent. We just have to continue to get better."

The score was 4-3 (NA leading) early in the opening frame, with WHS points from Jayde Parr and Courtney Cummings, but after that the score wasn't close with NA going on a 13-0 run in the next few minutes with points from Taylor Gast and Laynee Davis as they each sank a 3-pointer. Also scoring in the run were Morgan Hendricks, Emily Fite, Calee Downs and Makayla Jodrey for a 15-3 advantage.

For the game, Gast led all scorers with a game-high 14, followed by Downs with 12 points and Fite with 11 points. Alisan Sparks and Corey Pertuset each finished with 10 points.

The run was stopped by Jessie Gilliland, who finished the game with a team-high 10 points for the Lady 'Cats.

"Our effort was good in the first half," Cooper said. "Again, we just have to keep getting better and better."

NA (2-0, 3-1) opened the second with points from Gast and Jodrey, increasing the NA lead to 24-5.

Following a 3-pointer by Gilliland and two points from Parr, not much went the way of WHS (0-2, 0-5) in the second as they trailed by 26 points at the half. In the first half, NA had 16 points off turnovers, unofficially.

In the third, North Adams began with a 16-0 run, jumping their lead to 54-12 with 4:19 left in the quarter. The run was stopped by Marissa Bohl on a put-back bucket with 1:14 left in the quarter. NA ended the third with a 3-pointer and fast-break points from Laynee Davis.

During the 16-point run Gast, Pertuset and Dawns also sank a 3-pointer. In the quarter, NA (unofficially) scored 13 points off turnovers.

The most productive quarter for WHS was the fourth as Gilliland sank a 3-pointer, while Emily Stratton, Bohl and Parr all added points to the WHS totals. Parr finished with five points, followed by Bohl with three.

Besides the players scoring in double figures, NA's Davis and Jodrey each had eight points. Hendricks finished with two points.

The loss sends WHS to 0-5 overall. They will play again on Thursday when they travel to face the Fayetteville Lady Rockets in an SHL contest.
