SEAMAN - The Whiteoak Wildcats rallied to break a tied ballgame at the top of the seventh inning. In the bottom half of the same inning, the North Adams Green Devils capitalized on miscues by the Wildcats as they defeated Whiteoak 6-5 Wednesday at NAHS.
Both teams scored one run in the first, with WHS taking a 3-1 lead when they scored two runs in the top of the third.
The Green Devils plated two runs in their half of the fourth, tying the game at 3-3. Each of them added one more run in the fifth inning for the aforementioned four-run tie.
Ethan Eyre led WHS at the plate with a 2-for-4 performance, gaining three RBIs. Gage Carraher also was 2-for-4 with two RBIs and one run scored.
Ben Barnett was 1-for-3 with one run, and Zach Docter finished 1-for-3 with three runs.
Davis was the winning pitcher for the Green Devils.
"Our defense has been making strides all week. (Wednesday) we hit a real bump in the road," WHS head coach Chris Veidt said. "Davis pitched a nice game for them. He really shut our guys down five through nine. He pitched out of a couple nice jams as well."
The loss was charged to Eyre. The WHS pitcher allowed six runs, none were earned in the loss. Eyre allowed six hits and two walks in seven innings on the mound. He struck out four.
"Ethan Eyre pitched another fantastic game. No earned runs, 82 pitches with multiple errors behind him," Veidt said. "His composure and vocal leadership of others was impressive. We have great senior leadership on this team. He also is starting to heat up at the plate, and that is a good sign."
WHS falls to 5-6 overall, 4-1 in the Southern Hills League.
The Wildcats will host the Peebles Indians Wednesday at 5 p.m.
