LEESBURG — In a game that came down to the final quarter, the Whiteoak Lady Wildcats didn't make it easy, but the Fairfield Lady Lions were able to hold on for a 43-41 Southern Hills League win.[[In-content Ad]]
The Lady Lions (1-7, 2-10) led 9-6 after the first quarter in the Highland County rivalry matchup against the two youngest teams in the county.
FHS came back in the second with 10 points for a halftime lead of 19-13.
WHS (0-7, 0-13) won the second half by outscoring the Lady Lions 28-24 with a third frame of 8-7 and a fourth quarter of 20-17, but it still wasn't enough for the victory.
Another difference was each team's free-throw shooting as WHS was 7-of-31 and the Lady Lions were 13-of-27.
Leading the Lady Lions was the duo of Kaitlin Evans and Shelby Smithson with 13 points each. Lydia Sowders and Heather Cox followed with six points apiece. Also scoring for FHS were Haley Bobb, Justice Hattan and Cynnamon Sova-Davy with two points each.
The Lady 'Cats were led by Jessie Gilliland with a game-high 14 points. Clarissa Johnson followed with eight points, and the duo of Marissa Bohl and Brittany Luman each scored six points.
Also scoring for WHS were Emily Stratton (1), Jayde Parr (2) and Amber Gorman (3).
The loss drops WHS to 0-13 overall and 0-7 in the SHL. The Lady Lions break a 10-game losing streak with the win. They now stand at 2-10 overall and 1-7 in the SHL.
