Lady 'Cats open season with OT loss

BAINBRIDGE — The Whiteoak Lady Wildcats opened their 2011-12 basketball season with a 44-40 overtime loss to Ironton St. Joe at the Paint Valley Lady 'Cats Classic at PVHS Saturday afternoon.
Though the Lady 'Cats trailed 20-19 at halftime, they came back to lead 37-31 with 2:40 left in regulation.
Following three straight turnovers, the game was tied at the end of the fourth quarter, forcing overtime. WHS missed a layup attempt and had no answer for Ironton in the overtime period.
Jessie Gilliland and Brittany Luman each scored 11 points for WHS, leading in the scoring category. Jayde Parr followed with seven points off the bench.
Clarissa Johnson and Marissa Bohl each scored four points; and Morgan Campbell finished with three points for Whiteoak.
The loss moves WHS to 0-1 overall this season. They are scheduled to play again on Monday, Nov. 28 when they travel to take on West Union.
WHS will host their first home game on Thursday, Dec. 1 against Ripley at Whiteoak High School.
