  • NCAA: Former Arizona State football associate head coach, noncoaching staff member violated recruiting rules

    Former Arizona State football associate head coach Antonio Pierce and former noncoaching staff member Anthony Garnett participated in a program wide effort to engage in impermissible recruiting activities during the COVID-19 dead period, according to a decision released by a NCAA Division I Committee on Infractions panel. Due to his personal involvement in aspects of the violations — namely, providing recruiting inducements to prospects and their families — Pierce violated the principles of ethical conduct.

    Arizona State and four individuals who previously worked for the school's football program have reached an agreement with the NCAA enforcement staff on recruiting violations that occurred within the program and the appropriate penalties for those violations.
