For the third time in his career, Miami University's Matt Salopek has been named Mid-American Conference Defensive Player of the Week.
This past weekend the sixth-year senior had 10 tackles and an interception in Miami's 30-20 win over the Ohio Bobcats. Salopek (Kent, Ohio/Archbishop Hoban HS) was part of a defensive unit that held OU to 110 yards rushing (averaged 206.0 yards on the ground entering the game), while also forcing a pair of turnovers.
The reigning MAC Defensive Player of the Year enters Saturday's showdown against Central Michigan with 455 career tackles, 28.5 tackles for loss, 7.5 sacks, three interceptions and three forced fumbles. His 455 tackles rank eighth all-time in Miami history.
