Buckeyes squander 20-point lead, fall to Longhorns

AUSTIN, Texas – Top-ranked Ohio State (1-1) fell to No. 4 Texas (2-0), 24-23, on Saturday night at Darrell K Royal–Texas Memorial Stadium in Austin, Texas.

The Buckeyes held a 23-3 lead with 8:00 remaining in the third quarter.

Ohio State totaled 372 yards of offense, including 278 through the air and one passing touchdown. Junior wide receiver Jeremiah Smith led the Buckeyes with eight receptions for 164 yards and a touchdown. Junior quarterback Julian Sayin completed 17 of 32 passes for 278 yards. On the ground, tailbacks Ja'Kobi Jackson and Bo Jackson combined for 94 rushing yards and a touchdown.

Defensively, the Buckeyes forced two turnovers and recorded six tackles for loss, two sacks, three forced fumbles and one interception.

Next up, the Buckeyes return home to Ohio Stadium to host Kent State on Sept. 19. Kickoff is scheduled for Noon ET on FOX.
