Unearned runs lead to Mustangs' SHAC loss to Rockets
The Lynchburg-Clay Mustangs had seven hits against the Fayetteville Rockets Thursday night, but were unable to get the base runners around to home plate, as they fell to the visiting Rockets by an 8-3 score in Southern Hills Athletic Conference play.
The two teams each scored a run in the first inning for a 1-1 score, but the Rockets outscored LCHS 4-2 in the third, giving the Mustangs a 5-3 deficit.
Fayetteville scored the remaining runs of the game with one run in three different innings for the five-run win over Lynchburg-Clay. LCHS finished with seven hits, but had four errors in the loss. The Rockets totaled six hits and had one error.
Braedon West finished 3-for-3 with one RBI in the SHAC loss, while Josiah Burns was 1-for-3 with two runs. Cole Wells went 1-for-3 with an RBI, and Luke Smith drew a walk.
The Mustangs also had Cody Bell finish 1-for-2 and Austin Bell go 1-for-3 with one run.
Austin Bell and West each hit a double for LCHS, while Burns had a steal.
Christian Flowers was charged with the loss, as he pitched 2.1 innings (68 pitches, 32 strikes) where he allowed five runs (two earned) off two hits and four walks, and he struck out five batters.
Brayden Oberrecht pitched 4.2 innings (77 pitches/45 strikes) for LCHS, allowing three runs (one earned) on four hits and three walks, and he also totaled five strikeouts.
The loss sends LCHS to 0-3 overall, 0-2 in the SHAC.
