Mustangs defeat Ripley, Peebles in consecutive days for SHAC wins; West tosses no-hitter
Thursday and Friday evenings in Southern Hills Athletic Conference contests, the Lynchburg-Clay Mustangs gained two consecutive victories by defeating Ripley Blue Jays, followed by a Friday win over the Peebles Indians, as Friday’s game included Braedon West tossing a no-hitter.
Thursday’s win (April 25) saw the Mustangs defeat the Ripley Blue Jays 15-4 in five innings in a game played at LCHS. The conference win for the Mustangs started off with them leading by a 6-1 score after the first innings, and when each team scored two runs in the second inning, it was LCHS leading 8-3.
The two teams each scored one run in the top of the third for a 9-4 score, and in the bottom of the fourth, it was the Mustangs adding another six runs to secure the win.
Lynchburg-Clay finished the game with 11 hits and committed two errors, while the Blue Jays totaled four hits and committed five errors.
Cody Bell was the leading better for the Mustangs, finishing 3-for-3 with three runs and two RBI, as Bell hit a double in the win.
Josiah Burns went 2-for-3 with a run, one RBI and one walk. Cole Wells also had two hits with a 2-for-3 game collecting a double, three runs, two RBI and a walk. Braedon West finished with a two-hit game, going 2-for-4 with two runs.
Austin Bell was 1-for-2 with a run and one RBI. Isaac Eyre was 1-for-3 with one run and two RBI.
The Mustangs also had a walk by Elam Faust, Richard Fristoe forced a walk for LCHS, and Christian Flowers collected two RBI. Max Baker scored a run, Caden Faust had a walk and Trevor Niehaus scored one run and walked once.
Steals by the Mustangs included Cody Bell, Wells, Caden Faust, Elam Faust, West (two), Niehaus, Fristoe and Austin Bell.
Caden Faust pitched three innings for the Mustangs, allowing four runs (three earned) on four hits and four walks, with five strikeouts.
Niehaus pitched two innings, allowing no runs or walks, with four strikeouts.

Having three innings where they scored runs, the Lynchburg-Clay Mustangs gained another SHAC win by defeating the host Peebles Indians 8-1 on Friday (April 26) as Braedon West tossed a no-hitter.
In the 93-pitch no-hitter, West pitched all seven innings, allowing one unearned run and no hits with two walks and 11 strikeouts.
LCHS scored two runs in the top of the third, followed by one run in the sixth, and they broke the game away with a five-run top of the seventh inning.
Peebles finished with one run in the bottom of the sixth, with one error. LCHS totaled 11 hits and had two errors.
Elam Faust was 2-for-5 with two RBI, while teammate Josiah Burns went 1-for-4 with one run and a walk. Cole Wells finished 1-for-3 with a walk, and Trevor Niehaus was 2-for-4 with two runs and one RBI.
West at the plate finished 2-for-4 with one run, and two RBI. Isaac Eyre was also 2-for-4 as he collected a run. Cody Bell finished 1-for-3 with a run and one RBI.
Christian Flowers collected two walks, and Austin Bell finished with one run and a walk.
The lone extra-base hit for the Mustangs was a double by Wells. Steals for LCHS were by West (two), Niehaus (two), Eyre (two) and Burns.
Lynchburg-Clay is now 10-7 overall this season.
