Macy Etienne becomes newest member of 1,000-point club; LCHS defeats Ripley

For the second time this season, the Lynchburg-Clay Lady Mustangs have welcomed a new member to their 1,000-point club, and that player is senior Macy Etienne.
Going into the Lady Mustangs’ game on Thursday night at Ripley, Etienne needed just three points to join the exclusive scoring club, and after making a 3-pointer in the first quarter of their Southern Hills Athletic Conference road game against the Lady Blue Jays, Etienne scored exactly her 1,000th point, as LCHS finished with a 68-32 victory.
”I’m so happy for Macy,” LCHS head coach Whitney Lewis said. “She’s such a talented player, and I’m glad to see her hard work be recognized with this accomplishment.”
Earlier this season, LCHS saw Jade Massey reach the 1,000-point scoring milestone.
Etienne finished the game with 15 points, scoring eight of those points in the first quarter, as LCHS led 16-8 after the first frame was finished. Also scoring points for Lynchburg-Clay in the first quarter were Massey with six points off two 3-pointers and Ella Barry with two points.
Massey totaled 14 points in the win, as she made three two-point buckets, two 3-pointers and she was 2-of-2 from the free-throw line.
LCHS continued their dominance of RHS in the second quarter as they added 18 points to their total, with 10 points scored by Addison West, as she made four two-point baskets and two free throws.
West led LCHS with 21 points in the win with eight two-point baskets, one 3-pointer, and she was 2-of-2 from the free-throw line.
Also in the second quarter, Massey scored four points, and with two points each in the same frame were Allie Waits and Noel Barnhill.
Ripley was held to five points in the second quarter, leaving the Lady Mustangs in the lead at halftime by a 34-13 score.
The third frame continued with LCHS scoring 18 more points as Etienne added two points, West scored four points, Massey added two points, Joslyn Rockey sank a 3-pointer, Madison McMullen scored three points and Barry made two baskets for four points.
The third frame saw LCHS outscore the Lady Blue Jays, 18-11.
In the fourth quarter, LCHS scored 16 points and RHS added eight points to their final totals.
Lynchburg-Clay’s fourth quarter included seven points by West, five points by Etienne and two points each scored by Massey and Barry.
Other final scoring totals for LCHS were Waits (2), Rockey (3), McMullen (3), Barry (8) and Barnhill (2).
As a team, the Lady Mustangs totaled 21 two-point baskets, seven 3-pointers, and they were 5-of-6 from the free-throw line.
Ripley finished with seven two-point baskets, five 3-pointers, and they were 3-of-6 in their free-throw attempts.
The win improves LCHS to 8-1 in the SHAC Division I standings and 10-4 overall. Ripley moves to 2-8 in the SHAC Division II standings and 7-9 overall.
Lynchburg-Clay’s game on Saturday, Jan. 20 at South Webster has been postponed. LCHS will play again Monday, Jan. 22 at home against McClain in non-conference action in a battle of Highland County.
