Lynchburg-Clay wins at Fayetteville; follows with tournament win against Ripley

Lynchburg-Clay wrapped up their Southern Hills Athletic Conference schedule on Monday (May 11) as they defeated the Fayetteville Lady Rockets by a 4-0 score at Fayetteville High School. 

The SHAC win saw the Lady Mustangs score three runs in the top of the third and five runs in the top of the fifth inning. LCHS totaled nine hits and no errors. 

Fayetteville totaled one hit and had one error. 

Aubrey Roberts and Noel Barnhill each had two hits for the Lady Mustangs. Roberts was 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI, as she hit a double. 

Barnhill went 2-for-3 with a run, one RBI, and she hit a home run. 

Audrey Barry was 1-for-4 with one run with her hit being a double. Sadie Kuipers finished 1-for-4 with a run and one RBI, with her hit also being a double. 

Jazmine Brown finished the game at 1-for-2 with a steal and a hit-by-pitch. Kendra Doss was 1-for-3, while teammate Reese Ruble was 1-for-3. 

Barnhill was also the winning pitcher as she pitched 6.2 innings, allowing no runs on one hit and two walks with 15 strikeouts. 

Chloe Cox had the lone hit by Fayetteville as she was 1-for-3. Lanie Short walked twice, and Lilly Carlier was hit by a pitch.

After the shutout win on Monday, the following day saw a Tuesday (May 12) tournament win by the No. 6 seeded Lynchburg-Clay Lady Mustangs as they won their Division VI DIstrict Quarterfinal game against the No. 11 seeded Ripley Lady Blue Jays with a 20-2 victory in five innings. 

In their four innings at the plate and on the bases, the Lady Mustangs scored two runs in the bottom of the first, followed by a nine-run second inning, seven runs in the third and two runs in the fourth inning. LCHS totaled 11 hits, walked 11 times and had three errors. 

Ripley scored two runs in the top of the fifth inning. RHS finished the game with five hits and four errors. 

In the 20-hit, 11-walk and 17-RBI game by the Lady Mustangs, Sadie Kuipers was 2-for-4 with a run, a double, three RBI and a steal. 

Also with two hits was Reese Ruble, who had a home run, as she was 2-for-2 with two runs and two RBI. 

Audrey Barry finished the tournament quarterfinal game at 1-for-2 with one RBI and a steal. 

Noel Barnhill finished 1-for-2 with three runs, two RBI, two walks and a home run. Jazmine Brown finished the day at 1-for-2 with a run, four RBI, one walk, a home run and a steal. 

Caraline West was 1-for-1 with two runs, one walk and two steals. Kylee Tong was 1-for-1 with two runs, a hit by pitch and a steal. 

Baylee McClain went 1-for-1 with one run, three RBI, a walk and a double. Sophia Michael finished 1-for-1 with one run, one RBI and two walks.

Everleigh Barry drew a walk, while Aubrey Roberts scored three runs, had an RBI, two walks and a steal. Kendra Doss scored a run and walked once. Kami Collins scored two runs in the victory. 

Roberts was the winning pitcher for LCHS as she pitched all five innings for the complete game, where she allowed two earned runs on five hits and three walks with eight strikeouts. 

The win sends the Lady Mustangs to the Division VI SE District Semifinals Wednesday, May 20, where they will face No. 3 seeded Portsmouth West at Unioto High School at 6 p.m. 

Before their tournament game, LCHS has regular-season non-conference games scheduled for May 15 at Southeastern at 5 p.m. and on May 18 at home vs. Piketon at 5 p.m.
