Lady Mustangs earn win vs. Ripley; fall to Peebles
In their two most recent Southern Hills Athletic Conference games on Thursday and Friday (April 25-26), the Lynchburg-Clay Lady Mustangs won one and lost one by defeating Ripley and falling to Peebles.
In the Thursday game (April 25), the Mustangs trailed 1-0 after the top of the second inning, but in the bottom half of the inning, LCHS gained the lead with a five-run effort for a 5-1 lead. RHS scored two runs in the top of the fourth and one run in the fifth, but LCHS held on for the one-run win.
Ripley totaled seven hits and two errors, while the Lady Mustangs collected 12 hits and also had two errors.
Noel Barnhill led LCHS with a 3-for-3 performance at the plate, finishing with a double, one RBI and she also forced a walk.
Sophia Michael was 2-for-3 with one run, two RBI and one walk, plus one of her two hits were doubles.
Also with one hit each were Autumn Griffith (1-for-4), Avery Blankenship (1-for-4), Madison Baker (1-for-4, one run), Jazzy Brown (1-for-3, a double, one run) and Brya McClain (1-for-3).
Samantha Merry had the lone steal for LCHS, while teammate Caitlyn Collins drew a walk.
Barnhill pitched all seven innings, allowing four runs (three earned) on seven hits and one walk, with eight strikeouts.

Friday night (April 26) the Lady Mustangs lost 3-0 as they totaled three hits and committed four errors in their loss to the host Peebles Lady Indians.
Peebles scored all three of their runs in the bottom of the sixth inning, totaling six hits and one error.
Madison McMullen was 2-for-3 (two doubles), while Autumn Griffith was 1-for-3.
Caitlyn Collins had the lone steal for LCHS, while Jazzy Brown forced a walk.
Barnhill pitched six innings, allowing three runs (two earned) on six hits and one walk, with 11 strikeouts.
