It was a long evening for the McClain Tigers and Greeneview Rams on Thursday as they battled to a 12-inning game at Tom Hixson Field, where the Rams eventually won by a 2-1 score in the non-conference game.

Greeneview scored first in the top of the fourth inning for a 1-0 lead, as Jonathan Hoke doubled to left field to plate Matthew Phillips.

The Tigers rallied in the bottom of the seventh to force extra innings as Julian Swan went to third on a passed ball and scored off a single to right field hit by Benny Vangundy for the 1-1 score.

The game ended with Greeneview’s Lucas Reynolds hitting an inside-the-park home run, hit to right field, for the eventual one-run win. The bottom of the 12th inning saw Connor Chandler lead off with a base hit past second base.

After two outs were recorded, Connor Chandler stole second base, followed by Carson Chandler being hit by a pitch. Then both Connor and Carson Chandler stole second and third base, respectively, but the game ended with a strikeout.

The Tigers finished the game with 10 hits and four errors. Greeneview totaled six hits and an error.

For McClain, Eli Douglas had a three-hit game at 3-for-5 with a triple.

Connor Chandler was 2-for-4 with two walks and three steals. Hunter Peabody finished 1-for-6, while Carson Chandler was 1-for-4 with a walk, a HBP and a steal.

Brycden Whitley went 1-for-5 with a double. Matthew Cummins was 1-for-3 with two walks and a double. Benny Vangundy went 1-for-5 with an RBI. Julian Swan scored one run for McClain.

Easton Ary pitched seven innings where he allowed no earned runs on four hits and one walk with nine strikeouts. Vangundy pitched five innings in relief, where he allowed one earned run on two hits and two walks with two strikeouts.

The Tigers are now 12-12 overall this season.

McClain is scheduled to play their district-opening game on Tuesday, May 19, as they are scheduled to face New Lexington at 5 p.m. in Greenfield.
