McClain's Lily Barnes signs letter of intent to join Ohio University track & field team

McClain senior Lily Barnes has signed her letter of intent to be a thrower for the Ohio University track and field team.

The Ohio Bobcats compete in NCAA Division I as a member of the Mid-American Conference (MAC).

This spring will mark Barnes’ fourth year as a member of McClain’s varsity track and field team. She began her career at MHS on the highest stage, qualifying for the OHSAA State Track and Field Championships as a freshman in the discus event.  She finished in 16th place with a distance of 108-11. 

As a junior, Barnes was Frontier Athletic Conference champion in the discus event with a distance of 111-08, followed by a district champion distance of 124-09.00. At regionals, Barnes was fifth place and earned an at-large state qualifier spot with a discus throw of 119-10. She finished in 17th place in the Division II discus throw event at state, as she had a distance of 82-03 on her first throw. 

Barnes also competes in the shot put event as a member of the track and field team. She is a three-sport athlete at McClain, as she has also been a member of the Lady Tigers volleyball team — setting records for aces, digs and assists — and the basketball team.

Barnes is the daughter of Bill and Kendra Barnes.
