McClain walks off against South Point in 8 innings

The McClain Tigers added a sixth win to their total for the 2023 season on Tuesday, as they traveled to VA Memorial Stadium and earned a non-conference win over South Point by a 5-4 score in eight innings in Chillicothe.

McClain scored two runs in the bottom of the first inning, but South Point tied the score at 2-2 with a two-run top of the second. South Point took the lead with a two-run fourth inning, but McClain tied the score at 4-4 in the bottom of the fifth with another two-run inning.

The tie was broken in the bottom of the eighth, then McClain scored the game-winning run with Cohen Six hitting a single to score Gavin Warren for a 5-4 victory.

The Tigers finished with seven hits and committed three errors. South Point totaled six hits and committed four errors.

Warren finished 2-for-4 with a double, one run, one RBI and had two steals.

Kaden Penwell was 1-for-4 with a run, Andrew Potts finished 1-for-2 with two runs and two steals and Jayden Allison went 1-for-3 with a triple, one run, two RBI and was hit by a pitch.

Seth Weller finished 1-for-4 with an RBI, while Six was 1-for-3 with a run and walk. Haydon Hice forced a walk, and Tanner O’Connor collected a steal.

Eli Douglas was the winning pitcher, as he pitched 3.2 innings, allowing four runs (two earned) on two hits and two walks, with two strikeouts. Douglas threw 62 pitches, 41 for strikes, as he faced 18 batters.

SJ Adkins pitched 4.1 innings, allowing no runs on four hits and a walk, totaling three strikeouts. He threw 55 pitches, 36 for strikes, and faced 18 batters.

The Tigers are now 6-3-1 overall this season.
