McClain falls in walk-off loss at Manchester

The regular season continued for the McClain Tigers on Tuesday evening as they lost in walk-off fashion against the host Manchester Greyhounds by a 9-8 score. 

McClain led 1-0 after the first inning, then trailed by a 2-1 score following a bottom of the third where the Greyhounds scored two runs. 

The Tigers answered with four runs in the top of the fourth, but the Greyhounds were back adding runs to their total with a three-run bottom of the fifth inning for a 5-5 tied score. 

Each team scored one run in the sixth inning, and the Tigers regained the lead with two runs in the top of the seventh. Manchester rallied as they won with a walk-off victory by scoring three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning with their runs coming off an error, a passed ball and single as Manchester’s James Hackathorn singled to centerfield, scoring Parker Hayslip for the win. 

McClain finished the game with nine hits and six errors. Manchester had six hits and no errors. 

Three Tigers had two hits each with Connor Chandler going 2-for-3 with three runs, one RBI, a walk and a hit by pitch, and he also had three steals. 

Hunter Peabody finished 2-for-4 with one run, two RBI, a HBP and a steal. Kolton Lamb was 2-for-4 with one RBI, one walk and a double.

Carson Chandler finished the game at 1-for-4 with two RBI with one walk. Kamden Penwell finished 1-for-2 with one run, a HBP and a walk. Brycden Whitley was 1-for-3 with a run and a walk. 

Easton Ary walked once, while Matthew Cummins scored a run and drew a walk. Julian Swan scored a run. 

Connor Chandler pitched 6.2 innings where he had six strikeouts. Carson Chandler had one strikeout. Benny Vangundy also pitched in the game. 

McClain now has an overall record of 12-11. 

The Tigers are scheduled to face the Greeneview Rams on Thursday, May 14 at home at 5 p.m. Their tournament game is scheduled for Tuesday, May 19 at home against New Lexington at 5 p.m.
