Lady Tigers win on road at MTHS; fall to Jackson
In two recent road games this past week, the McClain Lady Tigers went 1-1 in Frontier Athletic Conference contests, as they defeated the Miami Trace Lady Panthers on Saturday night, and before that they lost to the Jackson Ironladies on Wednesday (Jan. 10).
The 36-29 victory on Saturday night (Jan. 13) saw McClain lead by eight points at the conclusion of the first quarter with a 14-6 lead, and after each team added eight points to their scoring totals in the second quarter, it was McClain still holding an eight-point halftime lead at 22-14.
MHS won the third frame at MTHS by a 7-4 scoring effort, but MTHS (2-5, 5-9) rallied with an 11-7 fourth frame, as the Lady Tigers still held on for a seven-point win in FAC play.
For McClain, it was Paisley Pryor leading the Lady Tigers with 12 points, followed by six points each from Kaitlyn Jett and Lily Barnes. There was also Haylee Havens with four points, Brenna Wright with three points, Luca Matesic with three points, and rounding out the scoring was Leah Lovett with two points.
MHS finished 4-of-8 from the free-throw line, and making 3-pointers for the Lady Tigers were Matesic and Jett.
Each team committed 17 turnovers.
On Wednesday night (Jan. 10), the Lady Tigers lost on the road to the Jackson Ironladies 43-25 in their FAC contest at Jackson.
Jackson (7-0, 11-2) led 12-6 at the conclusion of the first quarter, and the second quarter saw both Jackson and McClain each score seven points for a 19-13 score at halftime, where it was the Ironladies leading the visiting Lady Tigers.
McClain scored 12 points in the second half, with six points each in the third and fourth quarters. In that same span, the first-place Ironladies added 11 points in the third and 13 points in the fourth quarter.
Leading the Lady Tigers in the scoring column was Pryor with eight points, followed by Barnes and Anna Eikenberry with seven points each. There was also Leah Lovett with two points, and with one point was Havens.
The two games leave McClain at 4-3 in the FAC and 8-6 overall this season. Next for the Lady Tigers is a game on Wednesday, Jan. 17 at home vs. the Chillicothe Lady Cavaliers (2-5, 2-11) in FAC play.
