Lions take home 41-point win over Ripley

In Southern Hills Athletic Conference play Tuesday evening, the Fairfield Lions earned a conference win by defeating the host Ripley Blue Jays 62-21. 

The Dec. 16 win for the Lions saw them lead 10-6 after the first quarter, as Brody Smith had four points and Griffin Friend scored six points in the quarter. 

The Lions scored 17 points in the second, while their defense held the Blue Jays to four points for a halftime lead of 27-10. The big second quarter included scoring from Smith, Caleb Rice, Friend and Layne Burgess. 

Fairfield scored another 17 points in the third quarter, taking a 44-14 lead when the third quarter came to an end, as Ripley scored four points in the quarter. In the fourth quarter, the Lions added 18 points and Ripley scored seven points to complete the game. 

The Lions were led in scoring by Friend with 22 points, as he had nine two-point baskets, one 3-pointer and he also went 1-of-2 from the free-throw line. 

Smith finished with 16 points as he made six two-point baskets, one 3-pointer and he was 1-of-3 from the free-throw line. 

Fairfield had seven points by Burgess who sank a 3-pointer and two-point buckets. Scoring six points for the Lions was Rice, who made their two pointers in the win. 

The rest of the Lions’ scoring included Logan Burgess with four points off two baskets, Camden Caudill with three points off a 3-pointer, Zach Ahsaruk with two points and Landyn Hoskins with two points.  

Fairfield totaled 24 two-point baskets, four 3-pointers, and they went 2-of-7 from the free-throw line. 

For Ripley, Brooklyn Jordan led the team with nine points, while Gavin Benjamin scored eight points. Scoring two points each for the Blue Jays were Landon Dickhaus and Kyler Williams. Team totals for RHS were eight two-point baskets, and they were 5-of-8 from the free-throw line.

Fairfield now stands at 1-2 overall and 1-2 in the SHAC Div. II standings. Ripley falls to 0-5 overall and 0-3 in the Div. II SHAC standings. 

Next for RHS is a home game on Friday, Dec. 19 against the North Adams Green Devils. 

Fairfield is scheduled to play again on Friday, Dec. 19 on the road against the Peebles Indians in SHAC action.
