Lions hold on for SHAC win over Fayetteville

In one of their closer games this season, the Fairfield Lions kept their winning ways going by defeating the Fayetteville Rockets, 58-53 on Friday (Dec. 22) at Fayetteville High School. 

FHS hasn’t lost a regular-season game since the 2021-22 season, winning 31 consecutive regular season games, and on Friday (Dec. 22) they battled to their five-point win, even as they trailed 14-11 at the end of the first quarter.

In the second frame, it was the Lions outscoring the Rockets 13-5 for a halftime score of 24-19 in favor of Fairfield. 

Fayetteville won the third quarter at 14-13, and the fourth quarter saw a tough battle by both teams, but Fairfield won the final frame with 21 points, while Fayetteville scored 20 points in those same final eight minutes of play. 

Logan McIntosh and Trey House each led Fairfield with 16 points, followed by Larkin Friend with 11 points. 

McIntosh totaled four two-point baskets, two 3-pointers and was 2-of-2 from the free-throw line. McIntosh added three rebounds, one assist and one steal. 

House finished with one 3-pointer, five two-point baskets and went 3-of-4 with his free throw shooting. House also collected six rebounds, one assist and two steals. 

Friend ended the game with three two-point field goal, one 3-pointer and was 2-of-2 from the free-throw line. Friend finished with seven assists, four rebounds and one steal. 

The Lions also had the following final scoring totals: Gabe Fouch (six points, six rebounds), Chase Newman (five points, two rebounds), Cade Miller (four points, two rebounds) and Janre Lerio collected a rebound. 

Fayetteville’s leading scorers were Charlie Coffman with 19 points, Alex Bradshaw with 11 points and Caleb Tipis with 11 points. 

The win sends Fairfield to an overall record of 8-0 this season, and they are 6-0 in the SHAC, first place in the Division II standings. 

Fairfield is scheduled to play again Saturday, Dec. 30 on the road in Federal Hocking’s Hocking Valley Bank Spartan Classic against Albany Alexander at 3:30 p.m.
