Lions fall to Valley; rebound for win against Ripley

The past two games for the Fairfield Lions have seen them lose a close game to Valley at VA Memorial Stadium Monday, but bounce back for a Southern Hills Athletic Conference win over Ripley on Tuesday night.

In the 3-2 loss to Valley in Chillicothe, the Lions led by a 1-0 score after that run was scored in the third inning. Valley took the lead with a two-run fourth inning, and both teams scored a run in the fifth for the final 3-2 score in favor of the Indians.

Valley finished the game with four hits, and they committed three errors. Fairfield had eight hits in the loss and committed two errors.

Dow Moon had a multi-hit game, going 2-for-4 with a double and RBI. Zane Matthews was 1-for-4 with a triple and RBI. Gabe Fouch was also 1-for-4 with a steal.

There were also Landry Hattan at 1-for-3, Wyatt Collins at 1-for-3 with a run and steal and Noah Allering going 1-for-3 with a run. Blaine Fauber was also 1-for-3.

Wyatt Wiley had a steal.

Fouch had the tough-luck loss, pitching seven innings, allowing three runs (two earned) on four hits and two walks, as he struck out five batters. Fouch threw 111 pitches, 73 for strikes, facing 29 batters.

On Tuesday (April 25) the Fairfield Lions took down the Ripley Blue Jays on the road by an 11-4 score, gaining a Southern Hills Athletic Conference win.

Gabe Fouch was the leader at the plate, finishing 3-for-4 with a triple, home run, two runs, two RBI and a walk.

Dow Moon ended the SHAC game at 2-for-4 with a run, RBI, one walk and two steals.

Wyatt Willey finished 1-for-4 with a HBP and two steals. Noah Allering finished 1-for-3 with two runs and a walk. Wyatt Collins ended 1-for-1 with one RBI.

Zane Matthews collected an RB  and was hit by a pitch. Cade Miller finished with one run, two HBP and three steals.

Landry Hattan collected a run and two walks, while Blaine Fauber scored a run and added a walk, plus took a base after a HBP. Owen Larrick also forced a walk.

Matthews pitched five innings, allowing four runs (two earned) on six hits and three walks. Matthews tossed 96 pitches, 62 for strikes, as he struck out six batters and faced a total of 29 batters.

Allering pitched two innings, allowing no runs on one hit and no walks. He finished with five strikeouts, throwing 23 pitches, 19 for strikes, and he faced seven batters.
