Fairfield Lions defeat Paint Valley, Northwest in recent games

The two most recent games for the Fairfield Lions on Saturday and Monday saw them earn quality non-conference wins, as they shut out Paint Valley on Saturday, followed by a Monday win at VA Memorial Stadium against the Northwest Mohawks. 

On Saturday (April 6), the Lions defeated Paint Valley, 4-0, as all four of their runs were scored in the bottom of the fourth inning. 

In all for Paint Valley, they collected four hits and committed no errors, while the Lions had three hits and two errors. 

The three hits by FHS came from three players as they saw Cody Frost go 1-for-3 with one run and one RBI, while Blaine Fauber was 1-for-3 with one run and two RBI. Also with a hit was Carson Chandler at 1-for-3. 

FHS also had Zane Matthews force a walk, Corbin Willey scored a run, Wyatt Willey scored a run and walked once, and Nolan Campbell walked once.

Wyatt Willey was hit by a pitch, and Corbin Willey collected two HBP. Wyatt Willey also had a steal, as did teammates Matthews and Frost. 

Gabe Fouch was the winning pitcher, and in six innings he allowed no runs on two hits and two walks with 13 strikeouts. Fouch threw 110 pitches, 69 for strikes. 

Cade Miller threw one inning for the Lions, as his seventh-inning appearance saw him give up two hits and strike out one with no walks. Miller threw 13 pitches, 11 for strikes.

On Monday (April 8), the Lions traveled to VA Memorial Stadium, where they defeated the Northwest Mohawks, 11-1 in a non-conference game. 

Fairfield had a very strong opening three innings where they scored all 11 of their runs, with a three-run first inning, followed with a four-run bottom of the second and another four-run inning in the bottom of the third. 

The five-inning game saw the Lions collect their 11 runs on 11 hits and no errors. Northwest totaled three hits and committed one error. 

Fairfield had Zane Matthews lead the way at the plate, with his day including a 3-for-3 performance with a double, three runs and four RBI. 

Gabe Fouch finished 2-for-3 with a double, two runs and two RBI, while Corbin Willey was 2-for-2 with one run, two RBI and a walk. 

Others with a hit for FHS were Cade Miller (two runs), Wyatt Willey (one run, one RBI), Cody Frost (two RBI) and Blaine Fauber (one run). Carson Chandler scored one run and walked once. 

Matthews was the winning pitcher, as his complete game of five innings saw him allow one earned run on three hits and no walks. Matthews finished with five strikeouts, throwing 70 pitches, 52 for strikes.
