Southern Ohio Diversification Initiative introduces Oklo to the Piketon community

This week, the Southern Ohio Diversification Initiative (SODI) hosted a reception at the Twin Lakes Resort center in Piketon to introduce Oklo team members to community leaders in the region.
Oklo is a leading advanced fission company developing power plants to provide emission-free, reliable and affordable energy. Oklo recently signed an agreement with SODI to deploy two commercial power plants on property owned by SODI at the site of the former Piketon Gaseous Diffusion Plant that was operated by the U.S. Department of Energy.
“We’ve been so impressed by the interest and support we’re receiving from the community,” said Caroline Cochran, Oklo’s Co-Founder and Chief Operating Office, who presented an overview of Oklo’s technology at the meeting this week. “It’s clear that this region, with its skilled and experienced workforce, is poised to lead the nation in the next generation of energy production.”
“We appreciate that Oklo has made it a priority to get to know our community,” said SODI Executive Director Steve Shepard. “We’ve developed a great collaborative relationship with their team and look forward to partnering with Oklo to bring more jobs and economic opportunity to our area.”
The plants Oklo plans to deploy in Piketon will provide up to 30MW of clean electric power, and over 50MW of clean heating, with opportunities to expand. The plants will also support job creation in the area, furthering SODI’s mission to improve the quality of life for the southern Ohio community through both economic diversification and the advancement of clean energy solutions.
SODI and Oklo executives were joined by more than 70 community leaders, including officials from federal, state and local governments.
