Waw-wil-a-way celebrates 115 years

Waw-wil-a-way Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution met Saturday,  March 6 at the VFW Hall to celebrate its 115th anniversary. Luncheon was served to 64 members and guests from several chapters of the surrounding area. Those chapters recognized were, Turtle Creek, Sycamore, Ripley-Lt. Byrd, George Clinton, Nathaniel Massie, Catherine Green, John Riley, Taliaferro, Governor Othneil Looker, Cincinnati.

Tables were decorated  with white lace table cloths and vintage linen napkins. Pink rose buds and commemorative coasters  table favors at  each place. On display was the original charter of Waw-wil-a-way chapter issued in 1895. Interesting historical displays  of memorabilia  of the past 115 years were set up on tables for viewing.

Regent, Patrica Young presided  at the opening ritual and welcomed members and guests. Special guests included state officers of  Ohio Daughters of American Revolution. Patsy Gaines Ohio State Regent , Sharlene Shoaf, Vice Regent,Sandra McCann Corresponding Secretary, and Tonia Edwards South West Director and Registrar of Waw-wil-a-way chapter.

Hannah Rach served as personal page to the State Regent. Jill Troike, Page and the current Senior President of Waw-wil-a-way CAR,  and Nicole Tarr, Junior Page served through the afternoon.

Members of Waw-wil-a-way Children of the American Revolution  who  helped in serving the lunch were; Nicole Tarr, Katelyn Tarr,Sarah Jacobs , Zach Neal a JAC member and Mylah Adkins, the Granddaughter of the first Waw-wil-a-way  CAR President, Stephanie Saylor Evans.

Patsy Gaines, Ohio State Regent, who was dressed in costume, presented a story telling program of Hannah Emerson Dustin who was captured by the American Indians in the late 1600s.
