Three Arts Club holds May meeting

On May 11, the Lynchburg Three Arts Club met at the lovely country home of Cathy Farkus. Prior to the meeting, Don Pierson gave a very enjoyable concert on his Taylor T-3 acoustic electric guitar on Cathy's outdoor deck, which is surrounded by beautiful trees. His concert consisted of a combination of some old favorites and gospel. He started playing when he was 13 years old and has been playing for over 50 years. He also answered any questions we asked and explained how he got certain sounds. For example, he said that there is math in music; you pluck 12 frets from a note to make a chiming sound. He is a member of the Ohio Fingerstyle Guitar Club and a resident of Lynchburg. We enjoyed him very much. He and his wife joined us for refreshments, part of which consisted a delicious cheesecake, which Cathy also sells.
The meeting was brought to order by President Denise Minton who asked Becky Davidson to read the club collect. The secretary, Caroline Braley, called roll, which was answered by naming your favorite concert. The minutes were read and approved. Becky Davidson gave the treasurer's report. A thank you note was read from Colleen Mount for the three carnations the club sent when she was in the hospital. Becky Davidson invited the members to attend a quarter auction at the VFW Hall in Hillsboro on May 12. It will be a monthly event a nice ladies night out. The birthday auctions were won by Denise Minton and Nancy Shaffer. The election of officers was held, and the results are: president, Denise Minton; vice president, Cathy Farkus; secretary, Caroline Braley; treasurer, Becky Davidson; reporter, Nancy Shaffer; flower chair, Nancy Lippert; program chair, Doris Randolph; program committee, Colleen Mount, Ellen Pennington, and Wendy Johnson.
