Shawnee State University to Hold Events in Honor of Black History Month

Shawnee State University will be hosting several events in honor of Black History Month in the month of February.

The Shawnee State University Day of Service will be held on Feb. 5. This event is sponsored by SSU’s Center for Community Service.
Comedian Leroy “Hynobro” Williams will be performing at 7 p.m. on Friday, Feb 9 in the Vern Riffe Center for the Arts. Williams recently returned from an extended tour in Iraq, Bahrain, and Dubai, Africa, where he entertained American and NATO forces.
Among other venues he has appeared at The Comedy Showcase in Houston, The Comedy Life in Omaha, and on BET’s Comic View. This event is co-sponsored by the Student Programming Board and the Office of Multicultural Student Affairs.
A Gospel Fest will also be taking place will be taking place from 6-8 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 20 in the Flohr Lecture Hall in the Clark Memorial Library. Participants will be performing dance numbers, singing, reading and reciting poems. This event is co-sponsored by the African Hispanic Asia/Pacific Native American Club and MSA.
A musical/jazz presentation by Galen will be presented from noon to 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 23 in the East Lobby of the University Center. Galen is known as a talented and extraordinary flutist. He has performed both domestically and internationally for more than 40 years. He has recorded with some of the world’s greatest artist. This event is co-sponsored by the SPB and MSA.
All events are free and open to the public.
