Join us on Thursday, Sept. 16 for a trip to Springboro’s famous La Comedia Dinner Theatre and a matinee performance of the hilarious comedy “Dirty Rotten Scoundrels.” Our seats are the best in the house, floor level, center section, and La Comedia’s buffet is the finest in the area. The cost is $60 per person, and includes transportation, lunch and taxes. Your luxurious motorcoach will leave the center at 9:30 a.m. Stop by the center or call 393-4745 to make your reservation. Remember, you must be a center member (or guest of a member) to travel with us.

Periodically, we like to alert our readers to the services available at the Highland County Senior Center.
• Notary Public services are available at the Center Monday through Friday, 8:00 - 4:00. See Suzanne or Wanda in the front office. This service is available to the public.
• Blood pressure – second and fourth Wednesdays, provided by Highland Co. Health Dept.
• Social Security representatives are at the center on the third Wednesday of each month from 9 a.m.-noon. No appointment is necessary, you are seen by number. Next dates for Social Security are July 21 and August 18.
• Dr. Paul Yinger sees patients at the center for chiropractic services by appointment.
Chiropractic services are covered under Medicare and most private insurance. If you wish to pay out-of-pocket, services are $20. Call the center for an appointment.
• The center provides home delivered meals to seniors in Hillsboro. Hot meals are delivered five days a week and microwaveable frozen meals are delivered on Fridays for weekends. Meals are $3.75 per day, billed monthly. Seniors who meet income and other eligibility criteria may be able to get their meals partially subsidized through the center’s Angel Fund or completely paid for through the AAA7’s PASSPORT program. If you or a senior you know would be interested in receiving lunches, or for PASSPORT information please call the center.
We are happy to provide links and referrals to other agencies and programs offering such services as transportation, home delivered meals outside Hillsboro, emergency HEAP, legal services and more.
• How do you help someone who doesn’t want help? Self-neglect is the most common form of elder abuse. You’ve noticed a friend or acquaintance seems to be having some “issues.” She is isolating herself and seldom leaves her home. When you do see her, she seems to have lost weight, is confused and is wearing clothes that are obviously dirty. You can’t be sure if it’s her clothes or her body that smells unwashed.
When an individual fails to attend to her own basic needs, such as personal hygiene, appropriate clothing, feeding or tending appropriately to any medical conditions, it is self-neglect, a type of abuse. If you feel self-neglect has the potential to cause real harm to your friend, report it to the local adult protective services agency, usually housed within the department of job and family services or call 1-866-243-5678.[[In-content Ad]]
