Rotary Christmas for Needy Kids awarded Community Involvement Grant 

Fifth Third Bank has named the recipients of its inaugural Community Involvement Grants. Of the more than 30 organizations nominated by employees of the bank, Rotary Christmas for Needy Kids has been selected to receive a donation of $530. 

Rotary Christmas for Needy Kids provides food baskets and Christmas presents to families in need in the Greenfield area. The program is sponsored by the Rotary Club of Greenfield and WVNU-FM and was founded by Johnny Paycheck, a country singer and native of Greenfield. More than $225,000 has been raised to help families have a brighter Christmas. Last year, 400 families received assistance from the program.

“Fifth Third Bank is dedicated to investing time and resources to help build a better tomorrow for the community,” said Debbie Beyer, vice president of Marketing and Community Affairs for the bank. “We recognize the value that volunteers bring to many organizations, so this year we introduced a new program that provides grants to non-profits where our employees have been engaged as volunteers for many years. We hope to continue the Community Involvement Grant program in future years.”  

Each year the bank makes approximately 250 grants in support of education, health and human services, community development and arts and culture. “Our first priority is supporting initiatives and programs that deliver financial education to adults and children in central Ohio,” Beyer said.  “We also support other organizations because of the relationships we have with them, including our employees’ involvement.”   

In addition to providing grant funding, Fifth Third Bank employees offer their time, talents and personal financial support as board members and volunteers for nearly 90 local not-for-profit organizations, to help them accomplish their missions in the most efficient and effective ways possible. 

Other 2010 Community Involvement Grant recipients include Gahanna Early Experience Center, Mid-Ohio Foodbank, Westerville Area Resource Ministry, Business Education Advisory Council, Epilepsy Foundation, Mount Gilead Lions Club and Big Brothers Big Sisters of South Central Ohio.
