John Beard lived in Westmoreland County, Pa. during the Revolutionary War.
He enlisted in 1781 at Westmoreland. He was a private with Captain Wallace's Pa. Company of Militia at Wallace Fort.
He was discharged May 1782 with nine months of service, served in Pa. and Virginia.
After the Revolution, he served as an Indian spy on the frontier of Pa. Capt. John Sloan's Company, Col Charles Campbell's Pa. Regiment from Feb 1, 1780 nine months, from Sept. 1791 served three months; March 1792, served three months. (National Pension Application.)
