Premier Showmen 4-H Club visits Hills and Dales for educational field trip

Members of the Premier Showmen 4-H Club recently participated in an educational field trip to Hills and Dales. During the visit, members had the opportunity to learn more about a variety of animals and the importance of animal care and management.

Austin Bohrer asked about why animals are tagged and how identification tags are used in agriculture and livestock management. 

They explained how tagging helps owners keep accurate records, monitor animal health, and identify animals when participating in fairs, shows, and breeding programs.

Cole Lumen talked to youth about how to candle an egg, and care for baby chicks. He talked about the life cycle of the chicken, while allowing the preschool students the opportunity to hold a baby bird. 

Members also learned interesting facts about several different types of animals, including chickens, alpacas, llamas, cattle, and rabbits. The field trip provided hands-on learning opportunities and allowed members to ask questions while gaining a better understanding of animal science and agriculture.

The experience helped members continue building knowledge and skills related to livestock care while encouraging teamwork, leadership, and learning outside of the regular club meeting setting.
