Premier Showmen 4-H Club holds July meeting

The Premier Showmen 4-H Club held its monthly meeting on July 20 at the Highland County Fairgrounds, offering a full agenda of education, demonstrations, and community service.

The evening began with a fun and interactive leadership game designed to help members get to know one another. The meeting was then officially called to order by Club President Carly Sanders. 

Officers' reports were shared, followed by health presentations. Kinlee Case gave an informative talk on food Health and handling, while the safety report was presented by Claire Fullenkamp on the safety steps to being cautious at fair time, such as walking in pairs and checking in with someone before you go places.

Members took time to share accomplishments they had achieved since the last meeting, celebrating both personal and project-related milestones. The highlight of the meeting was a series of youth-led demonstrations, where members showcased their skills and knowledge in a variety of areas:

● Grant Johnson taught the group how to operate and safely shoot a bow.
● Carly Sanders demonstrated the correct way to fit a cattle switch on a tail.
● Kelly Fauber showed how to perform the Madonna soccer move to trick an opponent.
● Emerson Zink demonstrated how to create a homemade fly trap.
● Jada Johnson explained the proper attire for safe horseback riding.
● Noah Johnson walked the club through how to properly collect and store baseball cards.
● Blake Osborn shared nutrition tips for preparing for a cross country race.
● Wyatt Osborn demonstrated proper cross country training techniques.
● Brooklynn Stevens showed how to make a decorative pen using beads.
● Easton Dhume demonstrated how to make a “bouncing egg” science experiment.
● Kenely Juillerat shared how to make bouncy bubbles for kids.
● Graden Johnson demonstrated care techniques for a waterproof cast.
● Adele Johnson presented her Cloverbud poster highlighting their recent field trip.

During the business portion of the meeting, members were reminded to pick up their market chickens on July 24 and to complete feeder calf preconditioning by August 1. The club also reviewed details for pre-fair interviews scheduled for August 9, and Carly Sanders reminded everyone that club shirts can be ordered through August 10.

Members then split into project species groups to check in on the progress of their 4-H projects. The meeting concluded with a community service project, where members painted three trash cans for a countywide community service initiative and enjoyed snacks provided by the Juillerat family.
