The organization of "Nativity the Pop Opera" wanted to help provide assistance to families who have children being treated at the Cancer and Blood Diseases Institute (CBDI) at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center. As a result J. Todd Anderson, founder of Nativity the Pop Opera, created a first-class entertainment opportunity for the entire family called "Nativity the Pop Opera."
"Nativity the Pop Opera" is a lighthearted pop opera that commemorates the Christmas story as seen through the eyes of the angels. The music and the lyrics will appeal to audiences of all ages.
Theatergoers and families will have seven chances to see "Nativity the Pop Opera" at the Carnegie Visual and Performing Arts Center, Dec. 11-19. Proceeds from the ticket sales will be donated to 'Njoy-it-all Camp, a camp for children with cancer and blood diseases operated by Cincinnati Children's Hospital. The goal of the camp is to create a safe, fun place for kids to develop friendships with others in similar situations, learn new skills, enhance self-esteem, and learn the importance of managing their illness.
The creative person behind "Nativity the Pop Opera" is J. Todd Anderson, a 20-plus year veteran of the movie industry and storyboard artist to the Coen Brothers, George Clooney, Drew Barrymore, and more. Anderson wrote the songs, lyrics, and music for the show. Mark Cohea is the musical director, and Marion Schniegenberg is the producer for this year's production.
Helping those in need contributes to the welfare of the community. Approximately 200 people volunteer their time and/or services to support "Nativity."
"We could not do this show without them," Schniegenberg said. "They are the best cast, crew, and volunteer team ever."
If you cannot attend a performance but would like to donate to 'Njoy-it-all Camp, donations can be sent to the Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center, MLC 9002, 3333 Burnet Ave., Cincinnati, Ohio 45229-3039, attention Cathy Westrich. All donations are tax deductible as allowed by law.
