Library Comic Con set for June 21
The Hillsboro Library is inviting the community to come to a celebration of all things comics, sci-fi, fantasy, and anime on Saturday, June. 21.
“This is our biggest con yet,” said circulation manager Sarah Davidson. “Every year, we try to out-do ourselves, and this year, we’re especially excited for what we have planned.”
The con will be from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. During that time, patrons will be able to “nerd-out” with various activities, including:
- A “How to Draw” Panel with local artist William Roller
- Superhero Bingo
- Four different scavenger hunts
- Ten different games/challenges
“In total, we have twenty-three different things for patrons of all ages to do,” Davidson said. “Our goal is that patrons will be able to come to the library for a day full of fun. We have something for just about every interest, from comics to Harry Potter to My Hero Academia.”
Davidson added that one of the most popular parts of the con is the costume contest.
“We invite everyone to come dressed in their nerdy best,” she said. “We’ll award a winner and runner-up in four categories: Kid, Youth, Teen, and Adult.”
Davidson further explained that this year will have triple the amount of crafts that the con usually has.
“This year’s Summer Reading theme is ‘Color Our World,’” Davidson said. “So it just made sense for this to be the craftiest con ever! We’ll have sci-fi, fantasy, anime, comic, and videogame crafts.”
Also among those crafts, Davidson added, is the chance for patrons to build their own lightsabers.
These crafts are supported by the State Library of Ohio with federal funds from the Institute of Museum and Library Services.
“We can’t wait for comic con,” she added. “We really do have a ton planned for this year, and we’re eager to share it with everyone.”
