The Hillsboro Woman's Club enjoyed an outing for its October meeting, beginning with lunch at Snow Hill Country Club. The 19 members and five guests present then traveled to Sabina to tour the Sara Rose Museum.
This Queen Anne mansion was built in 1896 and remained in the Frank Haines family for more than 100 years. The granddaughter of the original owners, Sara Rosena Gallaher Kittle, bequeathed the house and contents to the Clinton County Historical Society in 2000. This elegant Victorian mansion is an excellent example of lavish, ornamental Queen Anne architecture. Furnishings range from the formality of the late 19th century to the comfort and casualness of the 1940s and 1950s. This 12-room mansion reflects the journey of one family and three generations.
Members attending included Opal Armstrong, June Bowman, Pauline Cameron, Marjorie Cook, Shirley Faul, Marilyn Geese, Jan Houston, Gretchen Huffman, Frances Larkin, Terry Maciuluski, Kathryn Matthews, Catherine Meade, Frieda Redkey, Debbie Rhude, Rose Ryan, Martha Saylor, Louise Sprinkle, Margaret VanFrank, and Jeanne Wilkerson. Guests included Polly Burnett, Toy Fender, Mary Todd Hardeman, Mary Lehn, and Marguerite Sprinkle.
The hostesses for the day's meeting, Mrs. Huffman, Mrs. Bowman, and Mrs. Rhude, served lemonade and cookies at the close of the meeting. A brief business session was conducted by the president, Rose Ryan. Hillsboro Woman's Club was founded in 1923 and is in its 86th year.
